Thames Valley Fire & Rescue Service is always looking for fully trained and qualified firefighters be they whole time or retained to come and join us. Trainee firefighters are also welcome although you should expect to train for a period of up to one year before becoming a qualified firefighter. To train as a firefighter you MUST have the following essential qualities:- A driving licence is essential, as is fitness, a willingness to learn, team spirited, honesty, reliability, no fear of heights or confined spaces. You will be expected to sit and take part in both theory and practical exams in order to qualify. Trainee Firefighters are not paid during training. However some remuneration may be available to those trainees who make the grade.
